The Republic of Ghana today Wednesday, March 6, 2019, turns 62 years since it attained independence on March 6, 1957 from British Over 100 years of colonial rule.
Previously known as the Gold Coast, Ghana was the first Sub-Saharan African country to become independent on the back of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
The celebration will be marked with the traditional march past and parade in Tamale. The march will feature the active participation of school children alongside security personnel.
For the first time in the history of Ghana, the Independence Day celebration has been moved from the national capital, Accra, to Tamale.
President Nana Akufo-Addo will take the national salute, deliver a speech of solidarity to Ghanaians and light the perpetual flame.
The flame lighting symbolizes the togetherness of the Ghanaian people expected to work in harmony towards building a better nation through patriotism and national unity.
The 62nd Independence Celebration is on the theme: “Celebrating Peace and Unity.
