More than 50 passengers have died following the collision of two buses in the early hours of Friday, March 22, 2019 on the Tamale-Kintampo Highway.
Injured passengers have been rushed to the Kintampo Government Hospital and other nearby health facilities for immediate medical attention.
A VVIP Kia bus traveling towards Kumasi collided with a Grandbird bus that was heading towards Bolgantaga.
According to MyNewsGh.com, the accident happened in Amoma, a village near Kintampo in the Kintampo North Municipality of the Bono East Region.
The eyewitness said, it is unclear what might have caused the collision but it is speculated that one of the drivers might have been dozing off and a result, the bus veered into the lane of traffic headed in the opposite direction.
The Grandbird bus was reported to have caught fire immediately after the collision, burning passengers onboard.
Some passengers were reported to have been trapped in one of the buses and have been rescued from the accident scene to various hospitals within the Kintampo for emergency medical attention.
Police on the scene haven’t determined what caused the accident. They say the road remains closed in both directions as the investigation and search for bodies continues.
